Meet Amanda Rodriguez
Hello Families! My name is Amanda. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Tarleton State University. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor #89250 and I am currently working towards my Registered Play Therapist Certification.
My professional experience started at a non-profit agency where I worked clinically with adults working through their trauma. I noticed most of my clients needed to heal their inner child and a majority of time was spent healing the little girl or little boy within them. I knew then I wanted to dedicate my time working with children.
By using play as therapy, I help create change in a non-intrusive and relationship building way. Children play, as adults talk. I believe that kids will come into the playroom and will do what they need to do in working towards self-actualizing. In this way, I am child-led. I trust kids will show me what they need to show me when they are ready, and my job is to meet them at their level and guide them towards mental health. I trust that a child, who is yet innocent and newer to our world, behaves as a form of communication to show us their needs and not to manipulate. While in the playroom, I have no agenda but to see the child as they are in their experiences. As I speak the language of play, I hope to be the bridge in your parent-child relationship.
Children are a gift from above, but I understand that it can be a challenge to enjoy the parent-child relationship in this way. I hope that I can also teach you the language of your child so you can further understand their needs and support a secure relationship.
I believe the journey to mental health involves a look into our emotional, relational, physical and spiritual selves. I may invite you to explore your families values when it comes to this, and I may even invite you to explore this for yourself to support you in parenting.
I am honored you would invite me as a part of your village in supporting your child towards healthy development, whether it is for a short time or long time.
