Child/Teen Adolescent Therapy

Keller Child and Family Therapy

Adolescents are courageous mini adults in transition. They experiment with different peer groups, can have extreme belief systems one week and the opposite the following week. Adolescents are seeking independence from family and it can seem as though teenager’s values and or goals are on the other side of the fence of any adult. Families often are confused and frustrated with why their adolescent is acting out in these ways causing conflict between family, school, peers and or interpersonally

Many families struggle with communicating with the; busy, ambivalent, withdrawn, unmotivated, angry, or perfectionist teenager. Some of the following are unhealthy skills teenagers may exhibit: sleeps a lot, is defensive, gives up easily, uses drugs or alcohol, gambles, is not engaged in peer relationships, does not regularly complete chores or homework, is not or no longer involved in extracurricular activities, in trouble with the law or getting truancy tickets and or suspensions from school.

I strongly believe every person has a best hope, a goal, something they want and I help to provide an opportunity for the adolescent to express themselves without the pressure often felt by teenagers from home, school, peers or interpersonally. Conflict is not part of an equation during therapy however solutions are! Listening with solution focused ears or the use of art/play therapy allows space for the adolescent reach their best hopes in healthy and productive ways increasing self esteem, morals and values.

I truly believe in developing the purest communicative relationship in each session between myself and your teenager. One where respect is the up most important. My best hope is the special bond built between each teenager and how that positive relationship can be transferred to other’s by them.

I am also able to collaborate with your child’s school in order to provide continuity of care for your child or teen. Additionally, I can provide custody access for parents and children in a safe environment to connect and interact.
